AB Mauri North America to Move into Cortex

AB Mauri, has just announced they are moving their North American headquarters into the @4240 building in the Cortex Innovation Community located in the Central West End.

Anyone who has spent time shopping in a grocery store has seen the bright yellow packages of Fleischmann’s yeast in the bakery aisle. The maker, AB Mauri, has just announced they are moving their North American headquarters into the @4240 building in the Cortex Innovation Community located in the Central West End.

The company, which also produces an extensive line of quality bakery ingredients beyond yeast (including leaveners, dough improvers, mold inhibitors, tablets, vinegars, enzyme blends, acidulants, malts, syrups, and other specialty products) will relocate from their current headquarters in Chesterfield, Missouri. The @4240 building was developed by Wexford Science & Technology based in Baltimore at a cost of $73 million, and includes a state-of-the-art multi-tenant laboratory and research facility.

The move will occur during the beginning of November, with nearly 60 full-time employees making the move from Chesterfield. The move will double the size of AB Mauri’s current space, with the company set to occupy about 23,000 square-feet of space in @4240 plus adding contemporary offices.

“We are very excited to move our North America headquarters into the City of St. Louis,” said Mark Prendergast in a press release, president of AB Mauri North America.

“AB Mauri is a technology-focused company that will benefit by working side-by-side with other innovative startups and established companies in the Cortex community.” This is the latest feather in the cap for Cortex, who recently announced that IKEA would open their first St. Louis location in the community.

“This move is not about space, it’s about thought leaders rubbing shoulders with entrepreneurs and seeing what new innovations result,” says Dennis Lower, Cortex Innovation Community president. “This reinforces our goal of building an environment where traditional companies and emerging businesses alike interact with one another.”

Moreover, AB Mauri has signed a long-term lease, which guarantees they remain in St. Louis many years. The company joins other high-profile tenants in @4240, including digital agency Manifest Digital’s Always-On Content Studio; HorizonX Ventures – Boeing’s Defense, Space & Security unit’s startup discovery group; Husch Blackwell; Washington University and the Cambridge Innovation Center’s St. Louis location.

Cortex occupies 200-acre of a formerly depressed midtown industrial district, which is being transformed into a vibrant, 24/7, mixed-use neighborhood that will serve as the epicenter of innovation and entrepreneurship in the St. Louis region. To date, Cortex has completed or committed development of $500 million and 1.6 million square feet, approximately 25% of its targeted buildout.

Other “coming soon to Cortex” developments include several high-profile tenants, a major greenway currently under construction, and in the planning stages, a new interstate exchange and a Metrolink station.
