St. Louis Guide to Global Entrepreneurship Week 2016

It’s back: Each November, people in 160 countries around the world organize a calendar of events and competitions to inspire entrepreneurship. Powered by the Kaufmann Foundation, Global Entrepreneurship Week 2016 happens November 14-20. Here are 9 events happening in St. Louis with the goal of introducing, celebrating or simply gathering like minds in honor of entrepreneurship.

Global Entrepreneurship Week


Chasing The Sun Entrepreneurship Celebration
Fri.–Sun., Nov. 11-13
St. Louis University
In this unique global event, high school students partner with teens from around the world to create an idea pitch. Group members begin with a problem in St. Louis and pass it on to the next time zone until the problems and ideas have traveled around the globe to locations including Hawaii, Australia, Saudi Arabia, India, Spain, Ireland, Canada and Haiti.

Angel Resource Institute’s Angel Investing Overview 
Sat., Nov. 12, 8am-5pm
John Cook School of Business, St. Louis University
The Billiken Angels Network at Saint Louis University and the St. Louis Arch Angels are pleased to host the Angel Resource Institute’s Angel Investing Overview Seminar. The day-long seminar grows, strengthens and develops the skill sets of early stage deal participants.

St. Louis Export Accelerator Awards Ceremony
Tues., Nov. 15, 5-7pm
Anheuser-Busch Auditorium, Cook Hall, St. Louis University
The STL Export Accelerator, the first accelerator in the St. Louis area to focus exclusively on exports, will grant non-dilutive seed money to local companies seeking to expand their footprint outside of the United States. The winners receive funding, training, mentoring and office space at one of STLVentureWorks’ innovation centers. This is the inaugural year for the export awards.

Startup Connection
Wed., Nov. 16, 5-9pm
Knight Hall at Washington University
Startup Connection is St. Louis’ largest annual celebration of entrepreneurship. With a reputation as the premier event during Global Entrepreneurship Week, Startup Connection brings together the entire startup community under one roof. Startup Connection 2016 will celebrate St. Louis’ promising early-stage companies, including 70 startups in the Venture Showcase as well as several cash awards. Last year’s event drew over 1,200 people.

St. Charles County Demo Day Competition
Wed., Nov. 16, 5:30-8pm
OPO Startups, 119 S. Main Street, St. Charles
St. Charles County Demo Day is a local competition for aspiring entrepreneurs seeking investment in their product or service related business. Presented by the EDC Business & Community Partners, the Demo Day Competition will award $25,000+ in cash prizes.

LaunchCode’s Annual Celebration
Thurs., Nov. 17, 5:30-8pm
LaunchCode Mentor Center, 4811 Delmar Blvd.
LaunchCode is turning three and invites the community to help celebrate. Join the organization for an evening of food and fun at the Mentor Center as it celebrates this milestone and looks to the year ahead.

Billicon Valley
Thurs., Nov. 17, 5-7pm
John Cook School of Business, St. Louis University
Billicon Valley is an evening of networking and workshops with a mission to introduce college and high school students to entrepreneurship at SLU and in the St. Louis community by engaging them with the brightest entrepreneurial minds on campus and in the city. Hosted by the SLU Entrepreneurship Club, the event hopes to inspire attendees to become entrepreneurs in their respective fields.

St. Louis Fashion Incubator Presents Fashion!

The National Black MBA Association 5th Annual Entrepreneur Think Tank
Sat., Nov. 19, 8am-12pm

This educational event consists of a series of workshops hosted by some of the regions’ key business resource organizations and entrepreneurs. The four workshop sessions are designed to impact business growth from any stage within the entrepreneurial journey.
