Mastercard Leads Sponsorship of GlobalHack’s Code with a Cause

Award funds event to develop tech tools for 10 local nonprofits.

GlobalHack, a St. Louis-based nonprofit that drives social impact through technology, was awarded $30,000 from Mastercard to fund Code with a Cause 2019, a unique event that pairs ten local nonprofits with teams of tech professionals to design real-world tech tools.

The weekend-long event taking place February 22 through 24, 2019, recruits tech professionals who are passionate about using their skills to help the community. Those professionals work around the clock for the weekend to design tech solutions for challenges faced by 10 local nonprofits, selected by committee from a pool of applications.

Mastercard joins the event as Presenting Sponsor in 2019. The global company, with its operations and technology headquarters in O’Fallon, Missouri, is committed to being a force for good in the world, aiming to advance social sustainability in every aspect of their work. The company has been a long-time supporter of GlobalHack’s software development competitions that bring together hundreds of technologists to design prototypes addressing some of our community’s most pressing challenges.

“At Mastercard, we use technology every day to make payments safe, simple and smart for our customers,” said Deann Donohue, director of community relations at Mastercard. “This event brings that same concept to the non-profit sector, driving innovative solutions to our community’s most difficult challenges. Mastercard is proud to help strengthen the St. Louis region by supporting Code with a Cause.”

Local company 1904labs is a Supporting Sponsor for the event, with more supporters signing on through the end of January. GlobalHack will invite projects from ten local nonprofits: ALIVE, ACLU of Missouri, Generate Health, Girls in the Know, Home Sweet Home, Missouri Confluence Waterkeeper, Saint Louis BWorks, St. Louis College Prep, St. Louis Earth Day and Wings of Hope.
