OPO Startups and the St. Charles County EDC Business and Community Partners have announced the five finalists for the upcoming St. Charles County Demo Day.
“I’m excited to see the technical talent and the high-potential startups across the region, and it makes me especially proud to see the entrepreneurs in OPO Startups do so well in this competition,” said OPO Startups founder Randy Schilling. “Every year the submissions get stronger, and every year members from OPO show they can compete against any startup in the entire Midwest.”
The finalists competing are:
- CheckTheQ, headquartered in St. Louis.
- DIYStyle, headquartered at OPO Startups in St Charles.
- GrabMe Delivery, headquartered at OPO Startups.
- Obodo, headquartered at OPO Startups.
- Z8 Inc., headquartered in University City.
Finalists will compete for $50,000 in cash prizes and additional in-kind services. The first-place prize winner will receive the $25,000 grand prize. The amount of cash available to finalists is double the amount awarded at the 2016 St. Charles County Demo Day.
“One big difference from last year’s competition is that we asked participating startups to talk about the economic impact they foresaw having on St. Charles County,” said EDC CEO Greg Prestemon. “That’s important to us, in part because so many business leaders from across the county as well as the city of St. Charles contributed to the prize pool. It’s also important because the entrepreneurs we support will become the anchor employers in our county ten years from now. In other words, we want to find the next Randy Schilling and hopefully recreate the economic impact someone like that has on St. Charles County.”
The St. Charles County Demo Day will be held on November 8, 2017, at OPO Startups at 5:30 PM.
