Midwest Cyber Center Creates First Cyber Registered Apprenticeship Program in the St. Louis Region

The Midwest Cyber Center (MC²) announced a partnership with St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) to introduce the first Cybersecurity Analyst Registered Apprenticeship program to the St. Louis region.

The Midwest Cyber Center (MC²) announced Tuesday that it has partnered with St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) to introduce the first Cybersecurity Analyst Registered Apprenticeship program to the St. Louis region.

Midwest Cyber Center (MC²) was founded in 2015 after regional leaders identified a lack of qualified workforce to meet the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals.

The goal of the new apprenticeship program is to provide another educational path for career seekers to enter the cybersecurity field. This paid, 18-month apprenticeship program combines on-the-job learning as well as online coursework.

Candidates will have the opportunity to complete a CompTIA Security+ and CompTIA Network+ certification by the end of the program. Candidates can apply for the apprenticeship program online now.

SLATE is the City of St. Louis government agency that offers job seekers and businesses a variety of no-cost services related to employment, job training, and career advancement. Michael K. Holmes, SLATE’s Executive Director, says:

“We welcome our new partnership with the Midwest Cyber Center (MC²) and its cybersecurity apprenticeship program. This training will contribute greatly toward expanding our region’s capacity for training cybersecurity talent, and increasing digital information systems’ protections, both for businesses and private citizens. We believe that MC² will provide excellent training and hands-on experiences for apprentices, which will attract many companies willing to hire our graduates.”

With more than 209,000 unfilled cybersecurity jobs in the US, the Midwest Cyber Center (MC²) is committed to increasing the region’s talent pool through this registered apprenticeship program. The nonprofit also offers a scholarship program for transitioning veterans, under- and unemployed individuals, or graduating college students with at least two years of IT/cyber experience looking to enter the cybersecurity workforce.
