How does Space Exploration benefit humankind through technological advances? Each year, “Spinoff” highlights NASA technologies that are benefiting life on Earth in the form of commercial products. Nearly 2,000 spinoffs have been profiled in the publication since it began in 1976 — there’s more Space in your life than you think! In this session we will share a handful of Space Spinoffs and then play “Stump the Chump.” In “Stump the Chump” we will reverse the idea and think about how Earth-based careers can spinoff into Space. Audience members will throw out career ideas and panelists will make a connection between the career and Space. “Film Maker” “That’s easy, film a version of Survival on the Moon.” “Social Media” “I’ve got that one, be the social media team for OSIRESRex.” These ideas might lead us to think of new inventions to make St. Louis the next Space Frontier.
Panelists: Judy Tippett, moderator; Christine Nobbe, STEAM educator; Brian Stofiel, entrepreneur; Ron Jones, aerospace engineer; and software engineers Colleen Forrest, Sally Kula, and Philip Newell.
